The magical waterfall on the way to RIBEIRA QUENTE
Surely you won’t be surprised that there are a couple of waterfalls along the way to Ribeira Quente. In the middle of this valley, surrounded by high slopes and on São Miguel this is really not a surprise, and also not particularly magical. It is also common knowledge that in between the two tunnel sections on the way towards Ribeira Quente there is a pretty, relatively larger waterfall to the right that cannot be reached from the outside.
What did strike us as magical, however, was the fact that after 8 years of regular visits to the Azores, and countless trips to Ribeira Quente, a new waterfall suddenly appeared by the side of the road. I was able to take a couple of photos before the waterfall then disappeared again within just 10 minutes.
If you pass by here, have a little look to see if the waterfall appears for you as well. It was located approximately 200m before the tunnel towards Ribeira Quente on the left-hand side. The place is easily recognisable even without the water, and it looks like the waterfall does appear every now and then. Directly opposite this place you can find the following waterfall:
